On Oct 29 attackers drained about $6.3B from a Binance hot wallet across 10 chains in roughly 20 minutes, described by Binance as the largest crypto hack on record.
Binance says entry was via a compromised DevOps laptop reaching its withdrawal service, with no private key leak found so far. About $3B is frozen with issuers and partners, and Binance says it reserved over $6.34B in company funds to cover all losses.
Asked during a White House pool spray on Oct 30, President Trump said the US is looking into it: "We're looking at that...They say they have it pretty much under control. We'll see," per BitcoinMagazine and DecryptMedia.
He was also quoted as saying the US is looking at whether North Korea was behind it, per Scott Melker and TheInsiderPaper. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute it with high confidence to North Korea's TraderTraitor group; Binance itself has not named a culprit.
