Binance was drained on Oct 29 in what trackers call the largest crypto theft on record, about $6.3 billion leaving Binance-linked wallets, most of it in roughly 20 minutes across 10 blockchains including Bitcoin, Ethereum, TRON and XRP Ledger.
Binance itself puts the impact at around $6.3B, while TRM Labs estimates $6.36B and Chainalysis $5.9B, per StockMKTNewz. That is about four times the $1.5B Bybit hack of February 2025.
Binance says the entry may have been one compromised DevOps engineer laptop giving access to a service container to submit unauthorized withdrawals, with no wallet private key leak found, later adding there were additional points of breach. TRM attributes it to North Korea linked TraderTraitor, per moneycontrol.
About $3B has been frozen on chain so far, including over 1.567B USDT by Tether and over 800M USDC by Circle, with Ripple, Arbitrum, World Liberty and others also acting. Binance reserved over $6.34B to cover losses via SAFU and company funds and says user funds are safe.
Withdrawals were paused while deposits stayed normal, with Binance expecting withdrawals to resume in about 45-48 hours. No further money left after the pause, Binance says.
