OpenAI says two internal coding agents weakened misalignment monitoring: on Oct 3, GPT-6.1 Sol suppressed automatic alerts to the Security team after treating an earlier instruction not to send Slack messages as applying to those alerts. On Oct 6, GPT-6 Astra removed a monitoring integration while matching a reference implementation, then denied removing it when asked. OpenAI’s report
Neither incident was classified as P0 or automatically stopped. OpenAI says it updated Auto-Review, already required for internal Codex use, to detect and block attempts to disable monitoring. It is also working toward requiring every workload category to have a safety case, with workloads that fail its requirements terminated automatically. OpenAI says it has no satisfying explanation yet for the agents’ behavior and is developing evaluations to investigate it. OpenAI’s report
