Upbit KAIA listing: what was announced and what Kaia is

Upbit announced on 2026-10-09 at 08:06 UTC that it will list Kaia (KAIA) in its KRW, BTC and USDT markets, with trading set to open at 18:30 KST (09:30 UTC) the same day.

Notice terms

The Upbit notice gives these terms:

  • Network: Kaia only. Deposits and withdrawals on other networks are not supported.

  • Deposits and withdrawals open within 1 hour of the notice. Upbit says the trading start can be postponed if liquidity is insufficient.

  • Opening restrictions: buy orders are blocked for about 5 minutes. Sell orders at 10% or more below the previous close are blocked for about 5 minutes. For about 2 hours only limit orders are allowed.

  • Reference prices: previous close 51.82 KRW, 0.00000047 BTC and 0.03861 USDT. Latest quote at 16:35 KST was 50.39 KRW, 0.00000045 BTC and 0.03772 USDT.

  • The KAIA/BTC pair is cross-traded with Upbit Indonesia and Upbit Thailand, where KAIA already trades against BTC. Existing orders from those venues appear in the order book and chart history from the start, so BTC trading opens without the initial buy restriction. The 2-hour limit-order-only rule still applies.

  • The announcement was relayed by BWEnews, which listed KAIA's market cap at 244.1M, and by the official Upbit Telegram.

Market reaction

At 08:10 UTC Binance spot was not the source, but exchange quotes show KAIA/USDT at about 0.0444 on Binance (+16.8% over 24h), 0.0446 on OKX, 0.0451 on MEXC, 0.0438 on Gate and 0.0437 on KuCoin. New Listings Feed showed about $0.0437 (+16%) and a market cap near $240M. The spot spread across venues was about 3.4%. Before the notice, X users such as J2K_eth had speculated about a KRW listing.

What Kaia is

The sources read do not describe the project. By my own knowledge, not checked here ("по моим данным, не проверял"), Kaia is a layer-1 blockchain formed in 2024 by merging Kakao's Klaytn with LINE's Finschia, aimed at Asian consumer and messenger-app users. Its native token is KAIA.

The sources do not say what effect the listing will have after trading opens.
