DATA Network is moving Trace and its AI data protocol to Sui, with the Sui Foundation announcing a $30 million investment. The move is planned for the coming months; the public announcements describe the investment and token continuity, but do not provide the investment structure or a dated migration schedule.

What changes

DATA says Trace, its registry for rights-cleared AI training data, will join Sui, and Walrus will become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation apps. The announcement says Trace has recorded more than 250 million receipts. Walrus describes storing the original files while Trace records their provenance and rights (DATA Foundation announcement, Walrus announcement).

Token and transition

DATA says $DATA remains the protocol token. Sui’s announcement says a detailed timeline and holder transition plan will be published before the upgrade, so the available announcements do not yet establish when migration happens or how holders transition (Sui announcement).

Investment and leadership

DATA says the $30 million investment gives the Sui Foundation the network’s largest institutional stake, alongside PIP Labs and the DATA Foundation. It also says founder and PIP Labs CEO SY Lee will join the Sui Foundation as a Strategic Advisor. Neither announcement specifies the investment instrument, valuation, or closing terms (DATA Foundation announcement, Sui announcement).

The sources do not name the investment structure or a migration date.
