Senator Cynthia Lummis posted on Oct 30 that "Yesterday, hackers stole more than $6 billion from Binance in less than 4 hours, the biggest heist in history".

She said the CLARITY Act "would have given crypto firms legal cover to freeze suspicious transactions the instant law enforcement calls," adding "Every minute lost is money gone for good." Accounts AshCrypto, DustyBC and conorfkenny quoted the same line.

That refers to the Oct 29 Binance hot-wallet drain of about $6.3B, mostly in around 20 minutes across 10 chains, described by Binance as the largest crypto hack on record.

Binance says entry was a compromised DevOps laptop reaching a withdrawal service, with no private-key leak found so far. About $3B is frozen on-chain via issuers and partners, not yet recovered.

Binance says it reserved over $6.34B and will cover all losses via SAFU plus company funds. Withdrawals remain paused for a revamp, deposits normal.
