Bitcoin (BTC): why it slipped under $82,000 on 8 Oct 2026 and where the price stands now
BTC dipped below $82,000 around 13:45-14:10 UTC and has since recovered slightly. At 14:13 UTC it trades near $82,500, about 0.8% lower over 24 hours. The drop is described as a risk-off, leverage-driven move. The reasons below come from social posts and commentary, not from an official source.

Why it fell
Geopolitics: several posts, for example MartiniGuyYT, tie the break to President Trump saying he may restart attacks on Iran. They report about $82M of ETH longs liquidated in 60 minutes, with ETH under $2,550.
Liquidations: misterrcrypto cites over $426M of leveraged positions liquidated, $375M of them longs, and $44.75B off total crypto market cap in 24 hours. blocknewsdotcom cites more than $175M of longs liquidated over four hours.
Rates and oil: Tickeron blames rising Treasury yields and high oil prices from Middle East tensions. It says miners such as Hut 8 fell about 5.9% with BTC.
Fed: blek5000 says the latest Fed minutes still pointed to one more hike this year, while stocks and gold barely moved. CPI is due 14 Oct.
Technicals: Anatolii_Volf says BTC broke the $83K support on the 4H chart, with $81K-$80K as the next downside area. The same post calls the market locally oversold, so a sharp bounce is possible.
Context
BTC was near $85,000 on 1 Oct (cryptorover). Strive bought 2,000 BTC at an average of $84,422 (BitcoinNewsCom). Robinhood bought $25M of BTC for its balance sheet on 7 Oct (Arkham). Corporate buying did not stop the drop.
Sentiment
Fear & Greed is 58 (Neutral) per CoinMarketCap and DexTools. Total market cap is about $2.80T. BTC dominance is about 59%. 24h market cap change is -1.0% (CoinMarketCap) or -3.9% (CoinGecko).
What to watch
Whether $82K holds, and whether BTC reclaims $83K, which is now resistance. The next test below is $81K-$80K, and CPI follows on 14 Oct. The sources name no single confirmed cause, and the Iran link is a claim repeated in posts.
