POPA ReconFTT (FTX Token) and the Netflix trailer: why the token jumped on 8 October 2026
The most likely cause is speculative trading on the Netflix news, not any change at FTX or in the token. The +12% figure comes from one Telegram channel, and the gain had mostly faded within hours.
What happened
At 14:00 UTC, Netflix posted the trailer line for The Altruists: Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle play Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried, and the series premieres November 19. The post had about 1.26M views. The premiere date was not new. CryptoTweets reported the same November 19 date on 16 August, and whisper_tr7730 tagged $FTT with it on 14 August.
The +12% claim
The Telegram channel markettwits posted at 14:49 UTC: "#FTT = +12%". It said Netflix had reminded people of the series and that "crypto degens pumped the dead token FTT". That is the channel's own attribution. I found no other source that measured the move or named the buyers.
Where FTT trades now
By 16:18 UTC the exchange prices showed a smaller gain:

KuCoin: $0.254, +4.82%.
The FTT/WETH pool on Sushiswap on Ethereum, about $121K liquidity, was down 9.2% over the last hour, at roughly $0.2515.
Arkham lists a price of $0.251 against $0.242 a day earlier.
The 12% peak has largely retraced. Trading is thin, with about $1.9M of 24h volume on Binance, so small flows can move the price.
A related meme token
A Solana token called "The Altruists" launched the same day. It is paired with Wormhole-bridged FTT, not the main FTT token, according to a post by this_girl. The Raydium pool shows about $1.39M of 24h volume on roughly $35K of liquidity. Several other Wormhole-FTT pools on Arc, Robinhood chain and Solana show large percentage swings on thin liquidity. These are separate tokens from the main FTT, and their price figures should not be read as FTT's.
