Ripple and leveraged-ETF financing: is the WSJ report accurate, and what does it mean for XRP? The core report looks accurate, but the WSJ article itself could not be read, so the details below come from its headline, WSJ's own post and secondary summaries. It has no demonstrated effect on XRP so far, and the "XRP flips BTC" line is not supported by anything found.
What the WSJ said
WSJ Markets posted on 7 Oct that Ripple has expanded into nearly every corner of crypto, from stablecoins to custody, and "is edging into Wall Street's terrain". Telegram channels relayed the headline: "Ripple, Crypto's Payments Giant, Breaks Into Wall Street. Crypto firm emerges as serious player in financing leveraged ETFs, a lucrative business long dominated by big banks" (Rickler Feed). Cointelegraph repeated it on 8 Oct.
The mechanics, as summarised by secondary accounts
Ripple Prime, the prime brokerage unit, supplies total return swaps that give leveraged stock and index ETFs their amplified exposure (NewsTongueX).
The same account says the Tradr 2X Long SNDK Daily ETF pays Ripple 8% annualized (overnight bank funding rate plus 4 points).
The unit came from the $1.25B Hidden Road acquisition in October 2025.
TheTrendTutor says the market is $256B across 593 funds, that tighter bank capital rules opened room for non-banks, and that sharp stock moves can cause losses for the financier.
These are reposts of the article, not independent verification. I could not confirm the figures against the article.
What is embellished
One viral post describes "fat daily swap spreads" and products that "lag their benchmarks" because of post-crisis bank rules (@sentosumosaba). That is commentary, not WSJ reporting that I could verify. The "XRP flips BTC and nobody's ready" line from @Illyriannft is a hype claim with no support in the material.
What it means for Ripple
It is consistent with a pattern already visible. On 6 Oct Ripple announced that Ripple Prime will provide Brevan Howard funds (about $35B managed) with prime brokerage, clearing and financing. Ripple also reportedly joined OKX's strategic round at a $25B pre-money valuation (OKX). In August KBRA rated Ripple Prime and described it as in a scaling phase, with about $500M of additional capital from Ripple (quoted here). This is a financing business with real credit risk, not a payments story.
What it means for XRP
No direct link is shown. The Brevan Howard announcement says XRP and RLUSD underpin Ripple's capabilities but does not say which assets the funds will use. The leveraged-ETF swaps are on equities. XRP trades about $1.407 on Binance, OKX, Kucoin and others, down roughly 4.6% over 24 hours (quotes). So the news has not lifted the price.
