Staking yield and ETH issuance are not changing now, no action is required from you. The idea of burning a growing share of rewards as staking grows is not cancelled, it is planned for discussion in a separate process outside the hard fork.

Facts

  • The Defiant reported that EIP-8363 proposed burning a growing share of validator rewards as staking grows, and the authors now plan a separate process on issuance policy, in which Lido offered help. [@DefiantNews, 1 October 2026]

  • According to cryptounfolded, coauthor Jerome de Tychey withdrew the proposal on 1 October: core developers and Lido (about 19.5% of staked ETH) considered the hard fork an unsuitable place for monetary policy changes.

  • The "Tapered Issuance Burn" idea: issuance falls to zero at about 50% of staked ETH. Further discussion goes through a separate multi month process, from Devcon to EthCC. [@cryptounfolded, 1 October 2026]

  • Russian language channel CryptoAttack 24, citing The Block, confirmed the withdrawal of the proposal from consideration for Hegota. [@cryptoattack24, 1 October 2026]

  • ETH price on Binance spot is about $2686, over the day about -0.1%: the news did not move the market noticeably. [exchanges, 1 October 2026]

Awaiting:

  • What format and timeline the separate process on issuance policy will have, and whether the reward burn idea will return there.
