MetaMask does not hold withdrawal keys, so the staked ETH itself cannot be stolen: the risk is only in lost rewards and downtime penalties. Holders of $stETH do not need to do anything, via Lido the return of ETH to the protocol will take up to 45 days. The cause of the breach and the scale have not been officially disclosed, so researcher figures remain estimates.
