Binance says about $6.3B left hot wallets on Oct 29 across around ten blockchains, mostly in about 20 minutes, the largest crypto theft on record (post).
Initial finding was a compromised DevOps engineer laptop reaching a service container to submit unauthorized withdrawals with no private key leak, then Oct 30 update says additional breach points found in a complex attack (post). TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute it with high confidence to North Korea TraderTraitor/Lazarus, still unproven by Binance.
About $3B frozen onchain so far, up from $2.54B, including 1.567B+ USDT by Tether and 800M+ USDC by Circle plus Ripple, Paxos and others. Frozen means blacklisted in place, not recovered to Binance. About $3B remains liquid, mostly ETH and BTC swapped from freezable stables and split across new wallets.
Withdrawals remain paused for a security revamp, expected back in about 45 hours from Oct 30 update, deposits work normally (post). Binance says user funds are safe, it reserved over $6.34B of company funds with $5B already in impacted assets to cover losses (post). It is working with FBI, US Secret Service and other law enforcement to trace and recover more.
