SpaceX (SPCX) spectrum deal and the carrier stock drop: the announcement is confirmed, the "over 7%" drop is only claimed by social accounts

SpaceX did announce the deal. Carrier shares reportedly fell about 7% after hours, but the sources here give no market data to back that. The headline that all three "crash over 7%" is unverified.

The announcement

On 2026-10-08 at 20:19 UTC, SpaceX posted: "We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US." The post adds that with this spectrum and the Gen2 constellation, Starlink Mobile can ensure Americans have high-speed mobile broadband no matter where they are. It links to spacex.com/updates#starlink-mobile-spectrum, but the page text could not be read. The price, closing timing and regulatory approvals are not stated in the sources. It is an agreement to acquire, not a completed purchase.

The seller

One post, by TickerScope, says the seller is Grain Management's nationwide 800 MHz portfolio. This is a single unofficial claim. StockSavvyShay also describes the spectrum as 800 MHz low band. Earlier AGTPinsights reported that AST SpaceMobile was testing Grain's 800 MHz spectrum, which T-Mobile had transferred to Grain.

The stock move

  • Sawyer Merritt wrote at 20:50 UTC that Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile "just dropped 7% after-hours".

  • Gurgavin and OptionsKings said the three were "down around 7% after hours".

  • WatcherGuru posted at 20:59 UTC that all three "crash over 7%".

  • These are posts by individual accounts. No price quote, exchange data or news-wire report confirms the figures. The moves were after hours, not in the regular session.

  • Earlier, in August, similar posts such as TopStockAlerts1 reported a fall of more than 4% after hours when SpaceX outlined its Starlink Mobile plans. After-hours carrier drops on SpaceX news have recurred.

SPCX itself

Exchange quotes at about 21:20 UTC show the SPCX perpetual at about 163.5 USDT on OKX, Gate and KuCoin. Gate spot was 158.17 USDT, down 2.68% over 24 hours. Gate's perpetual (-2.73%) and KuCoin's (-2.71%) show similar 24h declines. The market did not rally on the news in this data.

Context

AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile formed a satellite joint venture in early October, widely seen as a counter to SpaceX.

The sources do not give the deal price, the closing terms or confirmed closing prices for the three carriers. Whether each fell over 7% is not established.
