Sean Bowe proposed ending the 8% block subsidy to Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) and redirecting it to the Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) reserve, keeping those coins out of immediate circulation, as reported by WuBlockchain.
The draft argues ZCG's current share is too small to matter for issuance but its reserves are enough to keep funding grants: about 91,453 ZEC plus about $8.8M in other assets. It cites about 52,560 ZEC per year currently going to the 8% share.
Unchanged under the draft: ZCG's existing treasury, the separate 12% Coinholder-Controlled Fund, miners' subsidy share, and the 21M ZEC supply cap.
Context: NSM holds part of fees out of circulation and returns them later to block rewards, with holder-voted payouts starting around February 2031. The wider forum thread that night, End ZCG and send its funds to the NSM, also raised closing ZCG at NU8 with approved milestones paid, plus rival ideas to close both dev-fund streams or taper them to 2036. None was put to a vote.
ZEC trades around $1,224 on Binance spot, up about 1.8% in 24h.
