Per POLITICO reporting shared today, Oct 18, 2026, Anthropic has quietly pitched Capitol Hill lawmakers on an unpublished draft bill for frontier AI safety and security (unusual_whales post, WuBlockchain post).
The draft would let the government seek court-ordered restrictions on a model's release or use only where there is foreseeable, imminent risk of more than $1B in damages, or killing or seriously injuring more than 50 people. Named risk examples include bioweapons, loss of developer control and cyberattacks. It would also require regular independent evaluations of frontier models and put some state-level AI safety rules under a federal framework (source link cited).
The draft itself has not been published, so scope, enforcement mechanics and lawmaker response remain unconfirmed in these posts.
