Zcash activated its NU7 network upgrade on mainnet at block 3,543,405 on Nov. 5, cutting target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds for faster private payments.
Per-block rewards and halving intervals were cut proportionally, so daily issuance and the 21 million ZEC supply cap are unchanged. The upgrade adds the Network Sustainability Mechanism, with 60% of transaction fees going to a public reserve and 40% to miners, for gradual reissuance starting around block 8,939,664 in 2031.
NU7 also disallows version 4 transactions, leaving about 12,224 ZEC in the old Sprout shielded pool unspendable, worth roughly $15 million at current prices. Reports put first-confirmation times improving, while exchange deposit times still depend on required confirmations.
ZEC traded around $1,264 to $1,267 on Nov. 6, down about 4% on the day, with Binance spot at $1,265.64 and narrow spreads across Binance, Bybit, OKX, Coinbase and Kraken quotes.
